2016 Hispanic Radio Conference Advisory Board

Julio B. Aponte Jr. is the COO at Sun Broadcast Group Inc., overseeing all SBGI departments and the company's day-to-day activities and operations, as well as managing sales strategies and new accountability measurements. Before his promotion to COO, Aponte was the senior vice president of Hispanic Initiatives. In that role his responsibilities included research, development, the launching of new programming, and establishing new exclusive partnerships with affiliates for Sun Latino Networks, Sun's Spanish-language division. Aponte's professional career spans television and radio station management in the United States and Argentina. He has been affiliated with influential media groups and organizations such as ABC/Citadel/Cumulus Radio Network in New York, MTV Tr3s Los Angeles, Univision TV and Radio Unica San Francisco, Emmis Communications, and Boca TV in Argentina.

Angelica Balderas is senior vice president for Entravision Communications, overseeing all operations and sales in the Sacramento market, which includes top-rated KXSE (Jose 104.3FM) and Tricolor 99.9FM, as well as 101.9FM Wolf and Hot 103.5FM. Previously she was director of sales for Adelante Media Group, and before that she held the post of national sales manager, working with national advertisers and their agencies to execute advertising and promotional programs over Adelante’s nine markets. Balderas also served as president and principal of Aztec Media and launched KTTA (Kebuena 97.9FM), KLNA (Power 105.5FM), and KBBU (Ke Buena 93.9FM); those stations were sold to Bustos Media in 2004. Balderas’ experience includes over 20 years of local direct and agency transactional business and retail activation, as well as event marketing. National clients such as Tecate, Verizon, and Miller Coors have cited her work as examples of successful execution of events and retail programs.
Cuban-born Eduardo Caballero, whose broadcast career spans more than 50 years, began his radio career in New York and became the first Hispanic GSM in the country. He founded the first Spanish national radio sales rep firm, Caballero Spanish Media, attracting millions of dollars to the medium. Some of his other radio firsts and accomplishments include syndication, in Spanish radio, of Major League Baseball; the creation and syndication of CNN Radio Noticias (in association with Turner Broadcasting); and serving as the first VP/Director of National Sales for what is today Univision Television. Caballero has been the recipient of numerous awards, including Radio Ink’s Medallas de Cortez for Lifetime Achievement, and was the first Hispanic, in 62 years, to be inducted into the AAF Advertising Hall of Fame.

Frank Montero is a co-managing partner with the law firm of Fletcher, Heald & Hildreth. He focuses on telecommunications, broadcasting, media and technology. Montero’s practice includes FCC regulatory counseling, corporate finance, asset and securities acquisitions, intellectual property, and real estate and commercial transactions. Montero was an appointed member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Diversity for Communications in the Digital Age, and he has served as the Director of the FCC’s Office of Communications Business Opportunities. While at the FCC, Montero worked extensively with industry, trade associations, financing institutions, and governmental agencies to create business opportunities for entrepreneurs, start-ups, and other small businesses in the telecommunications and technology sectors. Before his appointment, Montero was a partner with the Washington communications law firm of Fisher Wayland Cooper Leader & Zaragoza.

Claudia Puig is senior vice president and Eastern regional manager for Univision Radio, and a recognized national broadcast executive with over 26 years experience in the U.S. Hispanic media market. Puig, born in Havana, Cuba, began her work experience with an advertising/sales position at AT&T BellSouth. After a few years, she decided to accept an opportunity in broadcasting. She rose through the ranks and ultimately served as VP/network sales for Spanish Broadcasting System before joining Univision Radio in 1997 as GM of its then-four radio properties. In her current role, she is responsible for the overall supervision of operation, finances, sales, programming, and business development, and programming for Univision Radio in Miami, Puerto Rico, and New York, a total of nine radio stations. Puig has been recognized as General Manager of the Year by Univision Radio.

Jesus Salas, a 20-year broadcasting veteran, is EVP/programming and multi-platform coordinator for Spanish Broadcasting System. Salas began his career as an air personality and got his first programming job at age 19. In 1997 he was named PD for WSKQ-FM & WPAT-FM/New York. Salas also held a post as senior PD with XM Satellite Radio. While at XM, he spearheaded a successful national marketing campaign to grow the Hispanic subscriber base. In his current post with SBS, Salas oversees stations in the top U.S. Hispanic markets of New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, and Puerto Rico.

Rosemary Scott, CRME, CDMC, is vice president of research for R Communications. Scott has more than 25 years of experience in research, marketing, and public relations; her experience includes serving as South Texas regional director of research and marketing for Univision Radio; director of research and marketing for Hispanic Broadcasting Corp.; director of research and public relations for Tichenor Media System; and director of research and development for TK Communications. Scott is a well-known marketing journalist whose articles have appeared in such magazines and newspapers as AdWeek, The M Street Journal, Hispanic Business, the San Antonio Express News, the Miami Herald, Radio Ink, and Billboard. She has served on the RAB’s Sales Advisory Committee for eight years, was chair of the Steering Committee for the NAB Radio Show in 2003, and was a board member for MLC RAB Conference Planning from 2004-2009. She has also served on the Radio Ink Hispanic Radio Conference Planning Steering Committee.
